Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?
I'm quite sure I'm not the only one on here who has lost money on bookings. Me, holiday in Portugal and Dutch F1 tickets, where despite no race and no flights to Faro I'm still not getting refunded, poxy vouchers at best.

This situation is going to change the habits of people in many ways, and advanced bookings will be one imo.

If you book on CC then you are covered?

I honestly think we will fall back into our habits, good and bad, sooner than people think.

If your flight has been cancelled you can have a refund.

Paul Weller and Wimbledon Tennis tickets already re-arranged for 2021 March and July - no problem with that

Debit card, chucked my CC out.

Should be yep, but airline saying only one free change for 1 year.

Re: Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?
Never pay for anything on debit card, unless you have paid initially on cc

say you booked a 10k holiday, paid £200 on cc and the rest via bank transfer/debit card, you would be covered for the whole amount

penners, ok noted. Btw, if you buy from a third party it can get more complicated for a chargeback?

Re: Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?
The only thing I book in advance is a flight - and that's only because I have a preference of where I sit, and the chances of getting a seat in that row diminish the closer flight time gets. If I can't get such a seat, I'll change my flight/airline.

The first 3/4 weeks after restrictions are lifted will be pandemonium; airlines will be able to charge top dollar for flights everywhere.

Fuck being within 5 miles of Victoria coach station when the white smoke appears.

Will still book in advance, but will chose the slightly more expensive, cancel for full refund when you like option. If not available, won't book.

West - Yes, I also do that with hotels via booking.com but that option is WAY more expensive for flights. and stuff like sports, theatre etc that option isn't even available?

Geezer I know shelled out 5k for corp hospitality for the Dutch scalextric and is now fighting for money back.

Was going to book a holiday to Canada before the shit hit the fan.
That would have been 8 grand up the swanee.
This time next year I might fancy going.
At the moment going abroad is the last thing on my mind.

I've got about £1300 outstanding on city breaks before September. Will have to assess each one as it comes.

I had 5 train journeys booked through LNER for West Ham games in late March, all April. LNER have been brilliant, refunded every penny without hesitation.

What airline is it? If they've cancelled the flight, you can almost certainly get a refund. Obviously they want you to take the voucher but you're entitled to a refund.

Penners: are you sure that a debit card payment (whether for the whole sum, or just a deposit as in your example) gives you protection? First I've heard of it. Point me to the legislation please.

Re: Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?
I have a lot of travel booked. The only thing that's fallen by the wayside so far is Malta this coming weekend (all refunded by the airline and the excellent hotels.com), but I expect Amsterdam and Rotterdam trips in May to be cancelled (I'll have to use insurance there). I'm hoping some June trips will still go ahead. Had a few flights booked for the Euros but they were mostly cancellable dependent on where England what England qualified for. After that I'm sure everything will be back to normal.

And I'll still be booking waaaay in advance. Getting ready to press the button on my first (and most likely last) trip to Dubai for the end of March next year. I can't see this being an annual thing!

Re: Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?
If an airline gives out a voucher is it to the value paid or for a replacement flight.

I'm thinking flights will go up as competition lessens with airlines going bust.

Fuck knows when we'll be able to travel again.

Re: Are you ever likely to book for anything well in advance again?
I am supposed to be on the first of a three day break with the family at Alton Towers Resort today. We also have a holiday booked in July and had tickets for a West End show for Mrs C's birthday, it had eventually all been paid off after the credit card took a bit of a battering.

All money we have got back so far and will be getting back in the future is going into savings, we moved in 2018 and since then have promised ourselves that we would build our savings up again without actually doing it.

Jim - surely missing the west end show goes in the positive column..
